He auditioned with 4000 other kids for the role of "James Graham" in Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. He started his career as a youngster and now is considered as one of the best-reviewed actors and one of the most popular actors in the film industry. Throughout his acting career he has won many labels with his name. The 10th Anniversary issue of Entertainment Weekly crowned him as one of the "Top 8 Most Powerful Cult Figures" of the past decade, citing his incredible and legendary cult status on the Internet. EW also calls Bale one of the "Most Creative People in the "Entertainment Industry". After his brilliant performance as the psychopathic yuppie serial killer in American Psycho (2000), he won the hearts of audiences and Premiere magazine landed him as one of the "Hottest Leading Men Under 30".
