Benjamin Geza Affleck

Ben Affleck was born as Benjamin Geza Affleck on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California. His father was a social worker, and his mother was a teacher. Affleck was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he met Matt Damon, who was two years his senior. They attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School together. His first major acting role was in a PBS children’s series titled “The Voyage of the Mimi.” Affleck went on to star in such films as “School Ties,” “Dazed and Confused,” “Mallrats,” and “Chasing Amy.” His big break happened when he and Damon teamed up to write the screenplay for “Good Will Hunting,” in which they also co-starred in. Their work won them an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. After that big experience, Affleck went on to star in high-profile movies including “Armageddon,” “Pearl Harbor,” and “The Sum of All Fears,” but hit a low point in 2003 when he starred in critically condemned “Gigli” alongside then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. The movie bombed and was the source of endless jokes, and the media attention from the cinematic tragedy is said to be one of the factors in the couple’s eventual breakup in 2004. Affleck found new romance with “Daredevil” co-star Jennifer Garner, and the couple married on June 29, 2005. On December 1, 2005, Garner gave birth to the couple’s first child. Affleck’s recent role in the highly praised “Hollywoodland” has helped his acting credibility a bit. He recently finished directing “Gone, Baby, Gone,” which is slated for a 2007 release date.
