GORDON Brown sensationally declares today that he will NOT scrap the Pound for the foreseeable future. He tells The Apprentice tycoon Sir Alan Sugar he has no plans to ditch it for the euro. And the PM dismisses calls by European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso for Britain to join the single currency. His words will be seen as a firm commitment to keeping the Pound — despite pressure from new Business Secretary Lord Mandelson to switch to the euro. Grilling Amstrad boss Sir Alan tells Mr Brown in a wide-ranging grilling he fears Britain will scrap the Pound as its value dips towards one euro. Sir Alan says: If it gets to a pound to the euro then we are in the euro, arent we? The PM replies: No, no, no.
